Descended from the Pennsylvania "Dutch" Sweitzers who migrated to Western New York, and changed their name in the proces, but trace back to Swiss/Palatine. Not sure of any Irish connection to Hans Jacob.
My grandfather was Milton Eli Switzer (1890-1972) tracing back to George Switzer, born in Germany in 1811, John Henry Schweitzer who came to the US in 1832, and Jacob Schweitzer who died in Germany in 1791.

I am so happy to have found this site! SandraLynn Parish on Ancestry.com told me about it and I'm looking forward to reading up all about my ancestors! I am shocked that this family has been traced back so far in history! My connection is through my great grandmother, Margaret Eliza Switzer. I have information, pictures and stories that I can share about her and her family that come via my mother, Margaret Barr (Vesik)who has several recollections about her from grandmother from when she was a young girl.

An amazing website!
I am a great, great granddaughter of Elizabeth Leoitzer Switzer (Eliza) b. 1839 d. 1910 (daughter of Rueben Switzer and Ann Sparling. I've been doing my family genealogy for the past five years now and have always been intrigued with the Switzer family roots. I'm so thrilled to find this site. I have had an old family group photo that I'm positive is Rueben Switzer and other family members but I cannot identify them. I'm hoping that this site will help me solve the decades old mystery. Please let me know how I can share this photo to see if anyone can help me. I'd be so greatful. I also have updates that I would be happy to share on this site.

I a ittle information that will help anyone that might be looking for documented proof of Census.

Your references should read:

Although we are now part of Durham Region (since abt 1960)Back in the days which you are refering to it was Ontario County.
Presently googling "Old Ontario County" will find the records.

Stumbling upon this website was a happy accident! I am very excited to have found it. John Switzer (1822-1902) Was my great-great grandfather. I own the exact same photo you have posted on this site. However, my great-grandfather, William Henry Switzer (1858-1927) is missing from your family tree. William Henry and his brother Ralph immigrated to the U.S from Ireland in 1881. I have a lot of data, including photos that I would be happy to share. Please contact me and advise. Thanks! Robin

Wow! My father was William Henry Switzer from Adams, New York 1924-2008. I have his family tree going back to Philip Switzer born in 1757 and prior to that, Johann Jacob Schweitzer of the Rhenish/Palatinate, Germany. They left for Ireland in 1707. Late in 1820, they left there with Christopher Switzer and headed for Canada. We must be related!
